Welcoming new coaches to the CFC coaching crew

Posted by & filed under Uncategorized.

Most of you have already met and been in classes with Hank and Josh.  Both of these guys bring great knowledge of the technical pieces of CrossFit, especially the Olympic and barbell lifts.  We are excited to be bringing two more awesome coaches on board.  First up is Liz Nazarenus.  Liz has been coaching with us for about a month and comes to us from Colorado.  She brings great energy to each of her classes and will push you to be your best.  Next is Dave Kaine (or DK as many of you already know him).  Dave is one of the original CFC members and our Social Director.  He is excited to be taking on this new role and will be coaching his inaugural WOD Thursday, April 11, at 5pm.  Please welcome all of our new coaches!

Garage Sale Fundraiser for Amazing Race/Make a Wish Foundation

Posted by & filed under Uncategorized.

garage saleMost of you know we have a team participating in the Amazing Race on April 20th.  This awesome event is through the Make a Wish Foundation and will grant wishes for 3 kids with life threatening illnesses.  As part of our efforts to raise money for the cause, we are going to be having a garage sale at CrossFit Coronado on Thursday March 14 from 8am-10am.  We need YOUR help!  If you have any items that you no longer need or simply don’t want, please bring them to us so we can sell them.  ALL money goes directly to the Make a Wish Foundation from our team.  You can start bringing items in anytime.  Please put them in a bag or box and mark it garage sale.  If you have larger items we would love to sell them too but we’d appreciate it if you could wait to bring them to the gym until next Wednesday so we don’t overcrowd our space.  We will also have an order out soon for some of Shelly’s famous cookies and you are always to make a straight donation to the cause on our donation page.

Looking for a few people to join the RAGNAR race April 19-20

Posted by & filed under Uncategorized.

ragnarEver wanted to participate in a Ragnar race but haven’t known how?  Now you can.  Ragnar is a 200 mile team run.  There are currently 4 spots open on Amanda’s team and we’d love to fill them with 4 of you from CrossFit Coronado.  This is the SoCal Ragnar relay run from Huntington Beach, CA to San Diego.  The team is made up of 12 people.  Each team member will run approximately 16 miles but split into 2 or 3 parts (so not 16 all at once). Cost per person is $135 for entry fee.  Other costs will also include two team van rentals and a hotel for the first night. They’ve got a great group of people so far and it will be sure to be a blast.  Email us at Info@crossfitcoronado.com if you’re interested and we’ll put you in touch with the team!

Protein, it’s what’s for Dinner!

A few people have asked where the best place is to get good quality meat.  Boney’s is across the alley and has some good options but it’s not always (well is almost never) the most cost effective.  Below is a list of different places you can get grassfed beef, pork, (and even a buffalo if you’re adventurous).  It’s typically cheaper if you buy a larger quantity and can even be more cost effective to buy a deep freeze and buy in bulk than to constantly buy a pound or two here or there.  Another option, if you don’t have space for a deep freeze is to find someone to share a larger order of meat with.

Grass Fed Beef

Open Space Meats (north of Fresno)

Eden Tropics (located in Temecula – also has lamb and goat)

Flying M Enterprises (located in Paso Robles)

Pork:

Cook Pigs Ranch (Julian)

Buffalo (and other cool stuff):

Bitter water Outfitters (Paso Robles)

Eggs:

Hillicker’s (Lakeside – these are not grain free/free range/etc, but they are fresh laid that day, large and well priced – 20 jumbo eggs for $4)

Another great place to find fresh, in season food and sometimes good deals on meat/eggs is at local Farmers Markets.
